WEEKEND PUNK

25 JUN
Design Museum

As the Design Museum closes its doors in Shad Thames before moving to a new home in West London, Weekend Punk celebrates the undefinable but unmistakable spirit of punk and its lasting influence on design and society. The museum’s Riverside Hall becomes the DIY floor with hands on creativity, while the 1.5 Gallery becomes The Stage with DJs, talks and live music.

Workshops, live performances and displays show that limited resources and a rebellious attitude are all that’s needed to create flyers, posters, fanzines, fashion and make an indelible impact on the world. Led by passionate tutors from the RCA, Central Saint Martins and London College of Communications, this weekend is for all ages and welcomes all potential, current or former punks!

On Saturday 25 June, Rough Trade presents an afternoon of events featuring a lecture from “Punk Professor” Vivien Goldman and Q&A with Brix Smith Start of The Fall. Live music from Texan anarchy-punks ‘Institute’ (Sacred Bones Recs) and multi-national post-punkers ‘FEWS’ (Pias Recs / Speedy Wunderground) and DJ sets from Rough Trade’s very own Sean Forbes and Sid Newman.

On Sunday 26 June, collaborate with Brody Associates to design a bespoke fanzine, create jewellery with attitude and smash the Weekend Punk piñata. (suitable for ages 5 – 11)

All of Weekend Punk activities are free!
